The Albany Files - A Dresden Files RPG

Cat's Paw
Lindsey Boothe (The Butcher’s Boy)

Tonight started as normal as ever and ended about as far from normal as possible. Receiving a call from Duncan and Sam, I met them under the overpass to 787. It was there that a young boy named Alex was murdered. It appeared he had been torn apart or sliced up, maybe both. He also had some white and grey hair or fur on the body, which Dave thought smelled like wolf. I gathered some blood and hair from the boy, but this proved unnecessary. We received a call from Michael about a scared little girl and went to Equinox to catch up with him there. There we learned that a butcher shop on Grand was the scene of the murder and that people in chains were being killed and cut into meat. David, Michael and I traveled there and found that in fact the meat hanging in the window was human. On close inspection we found that the shop was empty, but discovered a secret door behind the cash register that led to a horrifying chamber where the atrocities were obviously committed. Finding a secret tunnel under this room we followed it to the Trinity Outreach Center and Soup Kitchen. In the basement there were rooms that locked from the outside, obviously holding pens for the homeless they plan to butcher. Catching up with the Sam, Duncan and Nathan at the Elbo Room we learned that a werewolf pack operating in the area of the parks called Lupus has been besieged by what sound like about 5 ghouls. They appear as Slavik men and have been operating on the South end. It is then that Duncan advised us he had been told about the crime from a women claiming to be from a law firm. From the sound of the effect Miss Ducharm had on Duncan she is certainly White Court. It is my best guess that whatever is controlling the ghouls has become a nuisance to the White Court and they are trying to use us as a Cat’s Paw to get them out of the way. Things are looking grim for us.

Michael Boothe (The Butcher’s Boy)

While wandering the south end of Albany, a roughly 10 year old girl covered in blood ran into Michael. When he tried to ask her what happened, she took off again, and Michael followed her into a local shelter for children. Michael attempted to track where she had run from, but found nothing suspicious other then a butcher shop open rather late. Michael went into the shop under the guise of seeking a late night snack, and found that explanation of accepting a late night shipment to be reasonable, and left. Shortly after Michael received a call from Duncan to inform Michael of a recent bloody murder of another 10 year old child. Michael explained about the girl he had seen, and Duncan decided to join Michael to see if she could calm down enough to speak to us. The group got together at the Equinox Youth Shelter and persuaded the night staff to let them speak to Camile. After some difficulty, Camile told them that she and the boy, Alex were held prisoner in a basement with other people, who were cut up for to be eaten. The party split up as Michael, his sister Lindsey and the Werewolf Dave investigated the now closed butcher shop while Sam, Duncan and Nathan visited the Elbo Room to see if they knew anything about the body. In the Butcher Shop Lindsey found a hidden switch to open a secret panel which led the group to a hidden tunnel that led to a homeless shelter a few blocks away. The group met up with everyone else in the Elbo Room, where it was determined that there was a pack of werewolves who have been in a turf war with the Butchers, which Lindsey and Sam determined to be ghouls, Foul, Unholy minions of a yet Darker being, while Duncan explained who directed him to the murder in the first place, and Lindsey and Sam determined that Duncan’s contact may in fact be a Vampire, although one who does not seem to fit the stereotype.

While trying to plan our next steps outside Trinity the group watched a group of thugs roll up. The thugs turned out to be a gang know as the Murda Boyz and they demanded a tax for being in their territory. Peace talks broke down quickly (around the time Duncan started using words like Parole Officer) and a fight broke out. Michael disarmed a thug of his baseball bat, Duncan took a slash to the ribs but managed to put down another thug, I got two good kinetic punches in and Sam managed to send two thugs flying and blinded a third with his own shirt. David latched onto another thug like a crazed monkey and Nathan just got lost. Things took a serious turn when David changed and suddenly the thugs got scared thinking we were all part of the werewolf gang Lupus. They quickly got out of there and we all decided to call it a night. Got to test my healing potion on Duncan and it worked like a charm. Note to self: Make tailor in a bottle potion to repair destroyed suits…..liquid dry cleaner? Anyway, after a good night’s rest and a chance to brew up some fresh potions “Wendy and the lost boys” met at our house to plan the next steps. The decision was made for the team to split up. Sam and Duncan started to look into Trinity. Michael and Nathan went to the “Steak and Waffle Breakfast” at Trinity disguised, to a greater or lesser extent, as homeless people. David and I headed out to touch base with some local residents, but as soon as we heard about “steak and waffles” we rushed to Trinity and under a veil snuck in. We discovered that they were dragging homeless people downstairs, but before we could tell the others all hell broke out and a woman was snatched. We rushed down into the tunnel as quickly as we could, only to be greeted by a body part throwing ghoul. I used some disorienting spells on him, while Duncan sprayed the room with a fire extinguisher and Michael took some swipes with his sword. Nathan surprised us all by taking a bite out of the ghoul so I summoned up an image of a missing leg and Michael managed to slice it nearly in half. Rushing down the hall we saw a dark ritual under way with Sera the reporter on an alter surrounded by a moat of blood. Michael tried to dive into the circle and was hit by a wall of energy and thrown backwards into the wall. The dark priestess managed to stab Sera in the back, but she flew upwards and sprouted wings. There is no way any of this is good news for us…

A Ghoulish affair

The evening continued into some unexpected mayhem, as a group of street thugs challenged the group for being in their territory. Clearly misguided humans, Michael needed to protect them from themselves, and defended himself by hand against the idiot wielding a baseball bat. Before Michael could even get a punch in, Lindsay and Sam took down most of the group while Dave mauled one of the poor souls. As the thugs began to back off, Dave began to turn in the beast which lies in his heart and tear one of them apart. Once in his canine form, the thieves recognized him as a Lupine, a powerful local gang, and offered their drug stash for their lives, but took both and fled. The group too the night to rest, as all were tired and near breaking for the night. Everyone met back at the Boothe House and a plan to further investigate the shelter was formed, and it was discovered that the shelter was hosting a breakfast. Michael and Nathan to investigate the shelter while everyone else separated and tried to speak to the locals, and the organization behind the shelter. It became immediately obvious that the steak and waffles was the place to be, and the streets were flooding to it. Once everyone gathered at the shelter, a reporter was carried beyond a secured door to what we know to be a tunnel to the butchers. Once beyond the secure doors, a monster stepped beyond a door and it seemed for a moment that the bowels of hell had poured out a nightmare, and the stench struck them all as fiercely as the sight. The fight was the greatest test of faith Michael had yet faced, but with the help of his sister and their friends, but in the end, Montagiu found his way, and cut deeply, and the life poured from its heart. They all chased still, to find the stolen reporter, and found their way into the tunnel. The tunnel led to the butcher shop, as expected, but instead of more waiting hellspawn, there were people, watching a woman with a knife prepare to kill the reporter. Michael spend a moment of hesitation to decide between crossing the boundary of blood with Montagiu bared, or to use his shotgun from without. Michael charged forward with Montagiu, but the hesitation had a deep price, as Michael just began to move, a wall of energy slammed him against the back wall where he watched with disbelief as the reporter was stabbed and wings sprung from her back.
